If you live with or care for somebody who is misusing drugs or alcohol, life can be very difficult. You may feel helpless or frightened to say or do anything that might make the problem worse. And there might be very real practical problems to sort out, like paying bills or making sure the person is eating healthily.
If you're affected by someone else's substance misuse, our Family & friends service can help you maintain your own wellbeing and get practical advice. Here’s how we can support you:
- Our one-to-one sessions can help you explore the impact this issue has on your life.
- In some areas we offer drop-in groups facilitated by an experienced counsellor, where you’ll find that you are not alone.
- You'll find encouragement to look after yourself emotionally and physically, and get a deeper understanding of problematic substance misuse.
- Our welfare rights workers can give you advice about whether you can claim carers allowance and whether the person you are looking after has the right benefits.
