NORCAS starts in Norwich as an alcohol service.
1986
We expanded with a drug and alcohol project in Great Yarmouth.
1987
Opened a resource centre at Deneside in Great Yarmouth.
1991
Started a rural alcohol service in North Norfolk.
1993
Contracted to co-ordinate substance abuse services in Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
1994
Established a part-time alcohol service based in GP practices in Thetford.
1995
Won a Lottery grant for youth services in Thetford, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
1996
Began outreach work with drug users to encourage safer practices
1997
The Great Yarmouth team moved into larger premises in North Quay
1999
Started an alcohol service in Ipswich and a community support scheme in Lowestoft
2000
Began our drug and alcohol training for other professionals and organisations
2002
Started an outreach service for the homeless across Norfolk
2004
Our homeless service expanded with a supported house for five people in King’s Lynn
2005
Successfully tendered to provide structured day care across Norfolk
2006
Began hostel support in Lowestoft and a supported housing scheme in Norwich
2007
Started helping inmates with substance misuse issues in HMP Blundeston. We also became the GamCare partner for Norfolk and Suffolk.
2008
Won Lottery funding to deliver services to people aged over 50 living in Norfolk and to provide Welfare Rights support. Our chief executive Penny McVeigh retired and Maggie Williams took up the post.
2009
A new era for NORCAS with a new Vision, Mission and Values and after a major change programme NORCAS was re-launched.
2010
The NORCAS Youth Service began in Norfolk and Suffolk. We launched our Too Much, Too Young campaign and the Believe, Achieve, Succeed project for 18 to 25 year olds affected by substance misuse. And we held our first NORCAS Charity Ball.
2011
With Children in Need funding we started a service for young people affected by the substance misuse of their parents or carers. We held our second annual Charity Ball. And our Head Office premises expanded to make room for the Homeless Team.
