NORCAS Introduces a New Basic Skills Service in Suffolk
The basic skills service, which is located in Ipswich, offers access to providers of education, voluntary work or employment and will also support those affected by addictive behaviour to complete forms and CVs or offer support to identify meaningful activities that support personal development.
NORCAS service users are given an assessment which identifies their current skills and how they could be improved. They will also offer be offered up to six, one-on-one, personal coaching sessions to improve confidence levels and build on individual coping skills developed in substance misuse interventions.
John Hall, area manager of NORCAS in Suffolk, said “We are extremely pleased to announce the launch of the new service at NORCAS, which offers support to access skills training and relationship building. By encouraging individuals to improve or build on existing skills and offering NORCAS’s support, we are able to identify meaningful activities or aid clients in writing CVs, completing application forms and job search guidance. The new service can act as a stepping stone between substance misuse treatment and employment. The service users are supported to form external community relationships and this reduces their dependence on the specialist services offered by NORCAS.”
