[how we help]

We work closely with our clients to develop an individual support plan that will help them achieve their goals. To enable us to work effectively and to help you get the best results from your treatment, we've set out a few guidelines about what you - and we - can expect along the way.

Addiction or dependency?

Many people use and understand the word 'addiction' when referring to problem drinking, drug using or gambling, so we've used the term on our website. But at NORCAS, we often use the terms 'dependency' or 'addictive behaviour' instead because they're preferred by the World Health Organisation, and because they're less judgemental too.

You can expect us to:

  • Treat you with respect and dignity at all times.
  • Develop and agree an action/care plan together.
  • Respect your confidentiality.
  • Be non-judgemental, fair and flexible.
  • Complete an initial assessment and provide information on appropriate services.

We expect you to:

  • Attend all appointments on time.
  • Inform us as soon as possible if you're unable to keep an appointment.
  • Engage with services free from the effects of drugs and alcohol.
  • Have no drugs or alcohol on the premises.
  • Not offer or supply drugs or alcohol to other people on the premises.
  • Be aware that anyone engaging in threatening, abusive or criminal behaviour, including carrying offensive weapons, will be asked to leave the premises and could be banned.
  • Be respectful of the service, it's property and buildings.
  • Respect the rights and confidentiality of anyone using NORCAS services, regardless of their gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion or alcohol/drug/gambling use.
  • Take responsibility for your own belongings.
  • Use mobile phones responsibly and switch them off in all one-to-one and group work.
