News of Recent Fundraising Successes.

NORCAS has been awarded a grant of £117,000 from Comic Relief following a research project the charity conducted into young people and their relationship with using alcohol.

The funding is being used to set up an detached youth work programme in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area to work with young people at risk of developing problems with alcohol. Two experienced youth workers will work closely with relevant agencies such as the police and local authorities in communities experiencing problems with anti-social behaviour. The youth workers will raise awareness of the risks associated with alcohol misuse by engaging young people in their own environments such as, parks on street corners and the sea front . Where appropriate the young people will also be referred for additional support, such as for housing difficulties and ongoing treatment for alcohol dependency. The programme is due to launch within the next month.

At Christmas the NORCAS training team was awarded £25,000 to work with businesses in Norfolk to reduce harm. The money will be used to provide education and raise awareness of issues with alcohol for employers and employees.
