NORCAS Launches New Service To Reach Out To Over 50s

NORCAS has launched a new Over 50s Outreach service in Norfolk; the first of its kind in the area.

The new service is specifically designed to support people aged 50 years and over who have alcohol or drug issues, including prescribed medication. It has been set up following discussions with health professionals in all sectors who identified a significant need for the project.

The NORCAS team can also support those who are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug misuse, as well as carers, professionals and other agency staff who work with the over 50s. Substance misuse workers and counsellors provide the service, which includes therapy, support and motivation, signposting and advice.

NORCAS substance misuse worker, Simon Wakefield says, “Over 50s substance misuse is considered to be an “invisible epidemic” and is something that older people should perhaps stop to consider.”
