Why do some drug users inject?
Delivering a drug into your system through a needle either into a vein or muscle (skin popping) ensures the maximum hit and high for the money spent. It is most often used by heroin and cocaine users.
What are the risks?
There is always a general risk of infection of the site. The risk of infection by HIV or Hepatitis is very high if you share injecting equipment with others, you also run a greater risk of overdosing. So, if you are going to inject drugs there are some simple steps that could save your life:
- NEVER share works or needles, including spoons.
- Clean the area that you are going to inject yourself with an antiseptic wipe
- Don’t take too much. You can always have another hit later.?
- ALWAYS dispose of used works and needles CAREFULLY!!?
